An antique 19th century solid cast bronze mortar and pestle features a cylindrical body with a flared rim. It has two squared handles on opposite sides. The exterior surface of the mortar has decorative incised lines around the top, middle, and bottom sections. A hatched or cross-hatched pattern is etched into the main body of the mortar between the handles.
The pestle, a club-shaped tool used for grinding. It is also made of brass, It has two large, rounded ends and a thinner, ridged central handle section. Both items show some signs of age or use, with a beautiful patina.
There are no rust or holes in the mortar and are cleaned ready to use. A great kitchen item for decorative purposes or can be used to create fresh sauces.
