These exceptional candlesticks are characteristic examples of highly ornate Victorian Gothic Revival metalwork from the 19th Century. Reflecting the era's fascination with medieval drama and intricate craftsmanship, this symmetrical pair features a striking vertical design and elaborate detailing. Crafted in a bright, silver-plated metal, each candlestick stands on a triangular base supported by three dramatic, sculptural claw feet (or talon feet). The base is richly decorated with scrolling foliage and architectural tracery motifs, emphasising the heavy ornamentation popular during the period. The tall, slender shaft is segmented by pronounced knops and lower sections adorned with prominent, pointed leaf patterns, mimicking medieval architectural elements like crockets. The wide socket at the top is deeply etched with swirling, organic leaf designs, ready to hold a standard candle. Perfect for adding historical gravitas and elegance to a formal mantelpiece, dining table, or altar, these pieces embody the formal and decorative taste of the mid-to-late Victorian era. The candlesticks are offered in good condition with a beautiful patina consistent with their antique age and use. This desirable patina highlights the deep carving and enhances the historical character of the pieces.
