This tall, vertical chest of drawers is a distinguished example of classic cabinetry, characterised by its striking burr walnut veneers and elegant proportions. Standing at a total height of 131cm, the piece presents a stately silhouette that balances substantial storage with a refined aesthetic.
The most prominent feature is the exquisite burr veneer applied to the drawer fronts. These panels display the intricate, swirling "eyes" and mottled clusters found in the root or knotted growth of the walnut tree, creating a rich, organic tapestry of honey and amber tones. Each drawer is framed by cross-banded borders—a technique where the wood grain runs perpendicular to the main panel to create a decorative, defined edge.
The chest utilises a serpentine or bow-front design, meaning the face of the unit follows a subtle, undulating curve. This curvature catches the light differently across the grain, enhancing the three-dimensional quality of the wood. It is structured as a chest-on-chest, or one-piece tallboy, featuring a slightly narrower upper section topped with a moulded cornice and a wider base supported by traditional shaped bracket feet.
